Episode 79 - Gary Laderman, Sacred Drugs
Episode 79 is the 25th episode of Season 2.
We're joined today by Gary Laderman, a Goodrich C. White Professor of American Religious History and Cultures for the Department of Religion at Emory College of Arts and Sciences.
He has written seven books, including The Sacred Remains, Rest in Peace: A Cultural History of Death and the Funeral Home in 20th Century America, Sacred Matters and Don't Think About Death: A Memoir on Mortality. The eighth book of his is almost done. It will be titled Sacred Drugs covering drugs from pharmaceuticals to psychedelics and everything in between along with their use and connections to religion and culture. The book shares a name with a course he's teaching at Emory.
He spoke recently at Psycon in Las Vegas about psychedelics and psychoactive substances as sacred sources of meaning and religious life for society.
We dig into all things sacred when it comes to psychedelics and change at the individual and societal levels on this one.
